James has more than 15 years of yoga practice & more than 10 years of teaching experience. He is a ERYT200 Certified US Yoga Alliance teacher & trainer & currently run his own Yoga & Pilates school. James is fun loving, gentle but can also be dynamic in his yoga classes; accompanied with his creative sequencing and good coaching skills. His classes emphasizes a lot of foundational and functional anatomy aspects of yoga which he adopts his teachings from various yoga backgrounds such as Vinyasa Flow, Iyenger, Asthanga, Hatha Yoga, Alignment-Based Yoga, Yin Yoga, Kundalini, Pranayama Yoga and many more. From his wide background he loves funky poses and transitionings in classes! He was fortunate to learn from many renowned teachers such Noah Maze, Christina Sell, Tiffany Crushank, Kathryn Budig, Martin Kirk, Amy Ippoliti, Patrick Creelman, Marla Apt & many others.
In recent years he has also developed skills as a Remedial Therapist in Trigger Point where he completed his studies from Australia, and adopts these skills into his Myofascia Release Therapy Restorative Yin Yoga classes. James feels that one of the greatest gift of being a teacher is seeing students progressed well physically, mentally and emotionally through their yoga practices in both Yang and Yin aspects. He is a STOTTS Pilates trained teacher certified in both mat and ISP specialised paper in rehabilitation. He is also a trained Manual Therapist certified by Dr. Toby Hall & Kim Robinson and also trained in Applied Science & Biomechanics in Physiotherapist under the guidance & certified by Dr.Ravin Yadav. He does physical therapy sessions for both Scoliosis Management and Personal sessions.
James’ also comes from a strong Anatomical background where he picks up his knowledge in his years as a Stotts Pilates teacher (specialising in Injury & Special Population Therapy) and other Yoga Anatomy courses. He spent years of understanding the neuromuscular functionality of the body anatomy into developing the most safe and effective way in both yoga and pilates practices. He always emphasize in class that it is not about forcing ourselves into a pose but it is the process of understanding our body's limitations and work towards improving our postural alignment and hence heal our physical and emotional body through proper Yoga and Pilates practice. Some of us maybe born flexible but lack of control and some needs to work their way into flexibility. All requires time to cultivate, both strength in the mind, wisdom and physique in doing a yoga pose. James strongly believes in the perfect marriage between Yoga and Pilates as both modalities complements one another.
In his teachings and courses, his main emphasis are on the Structural and Functional aspects of the Spine, Pelvic girdle and Shoulder mobility - as it is the root of every exercises especially in yoga asanas. His highlight in his teaching is to be able to create movements on the pelvis and spine in every yoga asanas and he adopts the concept of Pilates Spinal Articulation into his yoga teachings.
